HMRC owed £270,000 by bankrupt lettings agent - court case halted

Proceedings against a bankrupt letting agent have been delayed 10 weeks to allow mental health reports to be prepared.

Madelaina Eftekhari is accused of bringing in £25,000 in rent payments while owing HMRC more than quarter of a million pounds.

The charge against her is that she ran a residential property lettings business from 2012 to 2018 with intent to defraud her creditors.

The Insolvency Service, which has brought 11 charges against her, say she failed to disclose that she owed £270,000 in tax or that she was able to use another’s HSBC bank account.

She is alleged to have failed to declare she owned properties in Oxford that brought in a £2,500 a month.
