Right To Rent - first digital identity providers approved

Business partners the Post Office and PropTech firm Yoti have become the first certified digital identity service providers to be entitled to complete digital identity checks for agents and landlords under Right to Rent regulations.

The companies have also been approved to be used by businesses to check whether newly-hired staff have a right to work in the UK.

For the past two months these checks can be carried out using Identity Document Validation Technology via the services of an Identity Services Provider and letting agencies can now utilise The Post Office and Yoti partnership to achieve these requirements for prospective staff or tenants.

The companies’ partnership will bring three services to the market for vetting – identity verification (web), reusable digital identity (app) and in-person verification in Post Office branches.

John Abbott, chief commercial officer at Yoti, says: “Being one of the first IDSPs to be certified shows our commitment to the market and is a testament to the quality of our digital identity technology. Certification under the Digital Identity and Attributes Trust Framework represents the gold standard of Digital Identity service provision with security and privacy prioritised, meaning clients have no concerns about GDPR.”
