The term “Levelling Up” – introduced by ex-Prime Minister Boris Johnson – has been ditched by the new deputy Prime Minister, Angela Rayner.

She says she wants to be known as the Secretary of State for Housing (or Housing Secretary) and her area of responsibility will now be called the Department of Housing, Communities and Local Government.

This change was confirmed by Jim McMahon, a junior minister in the department, in a BBC interview when he said Levelling Up was “only ever a slogan.”
