Deputy Prime Minister and Housing Secretary Angela Rayner will give an update on the Renters Rights Bill to delegates at the Labour Party conference on Sunday. 

Rayner, who is scheduled to speak in a 10 minute slot at 11.25am, will be the only speaker on housing in the main hall – but there are scores of fringe events discussing the private rental sector and a wide range of housing-related topics during the week.

Also on Sunday the anti-landlord Renters Reform Coalition will debate ‘How can Labour fix the renting crisis?’ with a cast of speakers including the Acorn rental union and the Citizens Advice charity.

The next day the debate ‘Where does the Private Rented Sector fit into Labour’s plans for Housing?’ is hosted jointly by the Social Market Foundation think tank abd and Paragon Babk.

Speakers include Nigel Terrington of the Paragon Banking Group and Gráinne Gilmore of the property consultancy Cluttons.

And the same day a fringe meeting will discuss ‘Ending blanket bans on pets in privately rented homes: where next?’ – this is organised by the Mars Petcare company and Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.

There are many other housing-related events dedicated to planning reform, new build targets, social housing, council housing and energy efficiency in the home.

The conference ends on Tuesday afternoon with a keynote speech by party leader Sir Kier Starmer
