Bidwells has been appointed by a Build To Rent operator to act as lettings agent for Cambridge’s first-ever housing scheme designed exclusively for rental.

The scheme is in Eddington, a settlement created by the University of Cambridge.

Publicity material from Bidwells says each home “is highly energy-efficient and incorporates smart technology, providing the quality and comfort of homeownership with the flexibility and freedom of renting.”

“This is a truly groundbreaking development for Cambridge and a significant step forward for the UK rental market” adds Alex Bloxham, partner and head of residential lettings at Bidwells.

“The combination of innovative design, sustainable construction methods, and a focus on creating a vibrant, healthy community makes this scheme a model for the future of housing. This project not only meets the growing demand for high-quality rental homes but also set new standards for sustainability and family living.”

Eddington and the wider North West Cambridge Development will eventually include 1,500 homes for university and college staff, 1,500 private houses for sale, accommodation for 2,000 postgraduates, a primary school, health centre, a care home and a Sainsbury’s supermarket.

Alan Penfold, managing director of Present Made – the brand owned by Alpha Capital, which is financing the development – comments: “This new development will introduce high-quality single-family rental housing to Cambridge for the first time, and we are excited about the rollout of Present Made’s first neighbourhood. With Bidwells’ unparalleled knowledge of Cambridge and their extensive experience, combined with the development’s construction excellence, sustainability focus and strong community ethos, we anticipate high demand from modern families seeking exceptional homes that meet their lifestyle needs.”
