A lettings agent offering a discount to landlords who rent exclusively to NHS workers in Cornwall has welcomed his 200th tenant.

Philip Norgan of Smart Estate Agent at Penryn in Cornwall has operated the scheme since 2021, at which point he ran Camel and Homequest Lettings in the county.

Now, as part of Smart, he has welcomed healthcare assistant Chinedu Nwoye as the 200th tenant to be housed this way. He and his wife previously lived in rental accommodation that is now being sold by the landlord.

A BBC News report cites a spokesperson from the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust saying staff “struggled to find suitable and affordable accommodation”, and it did its best to “support them in their search.”

“Since we started this we’ve now got 51 NHS landlords, but we’ve had a lot of existing landlords who say they would like to jump on board and [for us to] find an NHS tenant for them” Norgan tells the BBC.

As part of the scheme, landlords offer reduced rent in return for lower fees.
