Graham Donoghue, the chief executive of two holiday businesses handling over 22,000 lets, has stepped up to a leadership role at the Short Term Accommodation Association.
Donoghue – who runs Sykes Holiday Cottages and the Forge Holiday Group – will work alongside STAA chief executive Andy Fenner.
The association says the Airbnb-style short lets sector has been under attack from successive governments in Westminster, Holyrood, and Cardiff, with politicians partly blaming the sector for contributing to the housing crisis.
Donoghue says: “I am deeply honoured to assume this position at such an important juncture for short-term rentals. The STAA serves as the national voice, working tirelessly to support property managers, platforms, and owners as they navigate new regulations. Now more than ever, we must champion responsible growth that benefits businesses, communities, and guests alike.”
Chief executive Andy Fenner adds: “Graham’s leadership and deep understanding of the market will be invaluable as we expand our reach to property managers across the UK. The STAA has established itself as a leading voice in policy discussions, and Graham’s expertise will ensure we continue to represent the sector effectively. We’re looking forward to reinforcing our industry’s position and showcasing the positive impact of short-term rentals on the wider visitor economy.”
A statement from the association says the short lets sector is bracing for both incoming taxation changes and the long-discussed registration scheme championed by Labour’s tourism minister Sir Chris Bryant.
Industry watchers warn that, if not carefully managed, new regulations risk undermining small operators and dampening an area of tourism that has proven critical to local economies.
