Agents want “balance” as rental controls hit legal hitch

Airbnb in the UK and other major countries is seeking to reinvent the short lets concept by adding extra services.

It’s introducing what it calls Airbnb Services and Airbnb Experiences as well as a new app.

Airbnb services – which range from spa days to personal trainers and private chefs – are vetted and will only be listed if they have an average of 10 years of experience, have completed Airbnb’s identity verification process, and submit relevant licenses and certifications.

Airbnb will be a concierge-style service which can book entertainment, tour and hospitality venues.

The platform says those using the short lets and then booking an experience “will be able to see who’s going before you book, message the group or individual guests during the experience, and stay in touch afterwards.”

The app claims to simplify listings, allows bookings for the extra services, and offers an animated home page.

Airbnb’s global chief executive Brian Chesky says: “Airbnb is synonymous with a place to stay. With the launch of services and experiences, we’re changing travel again. Now you can Airbnb more than an Airbnb.”
