A new survey is seeking information on the experience, qualifications, training, and regulatory attitudes of agents and property managers across England.
It’s part of the industry’s preparation for measures to be introduced based on the Regulation of Property Agents (RoPA) working party, which reported some five years ago; current Housing Minister Matthew Pennycook suggested earlier this summer that at least some of the RoPA measures would be introduced in the near future.
The Survey of Property Professionals in England – July 2025 has been commissioned by The Lettings Industry Council’sRoPA working group, and aims to gather data on the qualifications, training, professional development, and regulatory perspectives of those working in the residential property sector in England.
This working group describes itself as “an independent sector-led body committed to supporting the implementation of RoPA.”
It comprises people from across the property sector and is co-chaired by Susie Crolla of The Guild of Letting & Management, and by Timothy Douglas of Propertymark.
The survey is divided into six sections:
1. Current Area of Work and Experience – Captures the professional setting, job role, years of experience.
2. Property Qualifications – Identifies the presence, type, and level of formal property-related qualifications.
3. Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
4. Membership – Records industry body membership and explores its impact on consumer confidence and client engagement.
5. Training and Progression
6. Mandatory Qualification
A statement from The Lettings Industry Council says: “The findings from this survey will provide essential data to inform policy discussions, influence the design of future training and qualifications frameworks, and shape the implementation of the ROPA regime. It ensures that the perspectives of practitioners across England—ranging from self-employed agents to large firms—are captured accurately.”
