Inventory Hive, a PropTech inventory reporting platform, has come out in favour of a charter set up by Labour’s Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham.

The Greater Manchester Good Landlord Charter is a free and voluntary scheme open to residential landlords with properties in Bolton, Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford, and Wigan.

The scheme – set up by Burnham in 2023 in his role as Mayor of Greater Manchester – wants landlords from the private and social sectors to commit to standards which exceed the minimum demanded by the law, and intends to help tenants recognise and identify landlords who are committed to higher standards.

It provides 21 membership criteria, grouped into categories termed: Affordable; Inclusive; Private and Secure; Responsive; Safe and Decent; Supportive; and Well Managed.

A statement from Inventory Hive says: “By aligning with the Charter, Inventory Hive reaffirms its commitment to improving rental experiences through transparency, accountability, and the fair treatment of tenants. The platform’s tools assist landlords and agents in maintaining compliance, documenting property condition and cleanliness, and fostering trust between landlords and tenants through robust reporting.

“We’re excited to support a scheme that recognises good practice and encourages landlords to raise the bar. Our technology exists to create clarity and fairness for everyone involved in the rental process,  values that sit at the heart of the Good Landlord Charter. Inventory Hive looks forward to working with partners across Greater Manchester to support the Charter’s goals and create better housing outcomes for tenants and landlords alike.”
