Lomond appoints former WH Smith boss to spearhead expansion

Lomond – the lettings and sales group linked with private equity giant ICG – has appointed a seasoned private sector figure to spearhead expansion.

Kate Swann becomes chair of the Lomond board, and has been chief executive of both WH Smith and SSP, a food and beverage group.  She is also currenty chair of four other company boards.

In a statement Lomond describes itself as “one of the fastest growing platforms in the UK” with over 70,000 rental properties under management and over 2,700 employees. It has completed over 70 acquisitions since 2021 and calls itself “a leading consolidator in the UK lettings agent market.”

It has a heavily centralised model, but says it offers independent agencies which it takes over the opportunity to retain their local brand presence and provides them with a platform for growth within their region.

Swann says: “Lomond is an exceptional business – leading the consolidation of the UK market and raising the bar for the sector in terms of landlord and tenant value proposition. I am excited by the significant value creation opportunity that exists through further organic growth initiatives and continued [mergers and acquisitions], and I am delighted to bring my experience to help support Ed and the team on its growth strategy.”

Ed Phillips, chief executive, adds: “Kate’s experience provides an appreciation of the unique strengths of our business, coupled with her knowledge of the services sector and M&A growth and transformation. We look forward to working closely with Kate and the rest of the Board to fulfil our significant potential.”
