Mandatory training and qualifications for agents on the way - government

A council is holding a forum for agents and landlords on December 1.

Recent and upcoming changes in the private rental sector include energy efficiency updates, higher fines for non-compliance, Awaabs Law, and the Renters’ Rights Bill.

Through the forum, Westmorland and Furness council will present expert sessions including:

  • The Renters Right Bill by Linda Cobb, Decent and Safe Homes Principal Manager;
  • Anti-social tenant behaviour e.g. tenant damage – how can Landlord’s deal with it? by Alana Davies – National Residential Landlords Associate;
  • Preparing our homes for future climates by Ashley Wilson – MD Express Plumbing Supplies.

Agents and landlords can submit questions in advance of the event or during registration to ensure the topics that matter the most to them are addressed.

There will also be information available from council teams including Benefits, Disabled Facilities Grants, Warm Homes Scheme, Housing Standards, Homelessness and external partners who will be on hand to provide advice.

The event is aimed at all landlords and managing agents with property in the Westmorland and Furness area, no matter the size of their portfolio.

A spokesperson says: “We want to make sure local landlords have the support and information they need to provide good-quality homes for people living in our communities.

“By staying informed about upcoming changes in housing law, landlords can continue to protect their investments and offer safe, well-managed properties to tenants across Westmorland and Furness.”
