A father and daughter team are taking ownership of a branch of Martin & Co.

Nigel Underdown and Mikala Hatfield are taking over the Welwyn Garden City branch with a combined 45 years of experience in estate agency and property management.

“We’ve both shared a lifelong passion for property and people, so when the opportunity arose to take over the Welwyn Garden City branch, it felt like the perfect fit” says Hatfield. “Having already worked together across several ventures, this was a natural next step, combining Nigel’s decades of experience in estate agency with my background in property management and lettings. We’re excited to bring a fresh yet experienced perspective to the local market.”

Underdown adds: •Being family means we’re completely aligned in our values, trust, integrity, and commitment. We communicate openly, make decisions collaboratively, and always put our clients first.

“Our dynamic allows us to combine traditional principles with modern energy, which we think is the ideal balance for today’s market.”

He has over 30 years of experience in estate agency and property management and is also a seasoned landlord with an extensive personal portfolio. She brings over 15 years of property experience, with a strong background in client relations, compliance, and operations. She has also successfully run several businesses, including Farm Parties.

Planned initiatives include regular landlord updates, educational events, and compliance support around upcoming legislation such as the Renters Reform Bill. The team also aims to strengthen the sales department, offering a complete end-to-end service for buyers and sellers.

Toby Philips, Group Managing Director of Martin & Co, says: “Their combined experience, shared values, and genuine passion for people make them the perfect fit to lead this successful branch into its next chapter. Their family partnership embodies the spirit of our network – local expertise, trusted relationships, and a commitment to exceptional service.”
