An innovative lettings agency says it’s looking for “values-led” landlords as clients.

Good Place Lettings – which was featured on BBC’s The One Show earlier this week – has been set up in London as a joint initiative between homelessness charity Crisis and the existing agency called Homes for Good. 

Good Place Lettings describes itself as an agency with a difference, focusing on the needs of both the landlord and tenant – with the agency providing a bespoke tenancy support service that helps tenants set up bills and access support where necessary. 

Based on Brick Lane in London’s East End, Good Place Lettings says it’s been established “to help tackle housing inequality head-on by helping private rented sector landlords offer good quality homes for rent alongside responsible property management.”

The business manages homes for landlords that are let at both market rent and affordable rental levels, including to people who receive housing benefit.

It says it’s working with a network of socially minded landlords who share its vision of a rental market that works for everyone. 

While many tenancies will be let at open market rents, the model works for landlords who want to offer their properties to those who might otherwise be excluded from the private rental market.

These would be people recovering from a personal housing crisis, or on low incomes who often face being pushed out of their local areas.

Agency director Ben Rayner says: “We need to work right across the residential market and are actively seeking landlords letting property at the market rate. 

“The major difference is that the fees you pay go towards something positive.

“With the Renters Rights Act coming into force, it’s the ideal time for landlords to work with a values-led agency that has the experience to make sure the right tenant/landlord relationship is struck up.

As a Community Interest Company (CIC), profits generated by the agency will be reinvested into supporting people experiencing homelessness and on low incomes to find good quality, affordable homes in London.
