It's a membership fee so it is non refundable, however the expectation is that more and more agents join using flatfair which enables the tenants to build up a profile with flatfair, and show they are good tenants if there are no claims.

Tenants provide card / bank details to be charged once payment has been agreed. It's a lot quicker than the traditional dispute resolution as well.

I was thinking the same thing. How many Landlords can't get tenants to maintain the property in line with their obligation. How many landlords have paid thousands of pounds for eviction because tenants stop paying rent. It's a never ending story about how badly treated tenants are when in fact they probably get a better deal than landlords!

I agree with the comments above. There needs to be a similar database for tenants. It is not hard to bypass some referencing really, no matter how diligent a referencing agent is. Having to get a court order via Section 8 route should be enough to forewarn landlords how they tenants may behave. Tenants get a lot of protection from the legislation. It's time to help Landlords out a bit too.
