Who has been in charge for 13 years ? Not that Labour would be zny better. The political class sadly is as rotten as the Met Police.

Free for all capitalism is as damaging to society as communism. And it is about time that letting was licenced etc with all the legal protections and h&s checks necessary. Much as we regulate the medical professions. Good owners/ landlords have nothing to fear. Sure it all costs. But any regulated activity does. We see what a free for all has done for the Internet and lack of controls on gambling as examples.

There used to be a 50% discount on CT for second homes. We were promised by Councils that abolishing that discount would mean more social housing. Ho ho ! Any money given to Councils somehow disappears into a hole. On worthless projects or on higher salaries for the bloated top tier. By all means double CT on unused properties. MPs with rheir second homes will of course be protected ?

I have a holiday let. And follow all rhe rules like annual PAT testing, Covid cleaning, extra insurance, smoke/ CO alarm, a gardener and so on. I do wonder if those.rushing in to holiday lets from longer term letting do all the necessary health and safety work associated with what is a hospitality sector. They ought to. But....

This is just huffing and puffing by MPs anxious to persuade constituents that they are doing something. But actually its just words. The problem of housing availability is hardly new. And with 300,000 more people coming into the UK every year than leaving the problem only gets worse .

There are more voters as tenants than there are landlord voters. So it stands to reason in a socialist country like Wales than landlords per se MUST be the culprits.

So having one leg cut off rather than both should make us feel better ? Trusting the admirers of Venezuelan economics and Cuban politics should strike fear into anyone who owns anything !

The way to stop this is to ensure that anyone booking has proper verification and that property owners are legally culpable if it happens. The plea from Avon Police is a bit pathetic. The real victims here are those being sexually trafficed/ exploited by organised gangs.

There is nothing liberal and nothing democratic about the LibDems. They are competing with Corbyn for "leftness". It is a pity though that government does not metaphorically lock up really bad landlords and throw away the key ! And punish the tenants from hell too.

Who would trust Corbyn/McDonnell with one's own assets ? These two admire Venezuela's economics and Cuba's politics . They seem to.orefer terrorist groups like Hamas/PLO to a democratic and prosperous country like Israel. So prepare for the worst with these two. Property ownership and individual aspiration are anathema to Marxists within today's Labour .

When McDonnell was on the old GLC with Red Ken Livingstone, the latter thought McDonnell was too left wing. So look out. There is a Marxist about. McDonnell of course admires Venezuela as an economic model too. As well as wanting Cuba as an ally. Don't blame me if voters somehow let Corbyn in, then.

There must be the occasional competent and trustworthy Council ? But just read any edition of Private Eye - particularly the "Rotten Boroughs"page and would not trust them with a dime. Here in Cornwall I now have to organise my own refuse collection service because Cornwall Council - which is generally pretty poor on all fronts- except when demanding more Government Aid - will not collect from holiday lets. So I pay full council tax for a non service.

One thing one learns about surveys is that most of the results are skewed to further the interests of one group or another. Much news - whether it be on the BBC or RT lr in the dsily press Left or Right - is fake news. Maybe most is fake ? Landlord bashing is currently fashionable. There are both Rachman types and great landlords. Great tenants and tenants from hell. No politician grasps the nettle on evil. Evil landlords or Evil tenants. They prefer to punish and vilify all. But if we think it is getting worse it is paradise compared with what Corbyn would do to landlords. Or some Councils. We have a holiday home in Cornwall which we use for periods as summer holiday lets. And on which I pay full Council Tax naturally. Cornwall Council has now banned council refuse collections for such properties . So I and others have had to arrange a private collection service. What next ? Will the police refuse to protect us or will the NHS decline to serve us in Cornwall ? Discrimination of a distinct group by those who's salaries and services we pay for ( I.e. the profligate Cornwall Council) ? That is ok then.

The Tories appear to be loathed and despised by many in their core vote. The recent election results here in blue Surrey - Tories virtually wiped out in Guildford for example. For a variety of reasons. And deservedly. The Section 21 issue is a Tory populist move. Bash landlords. There are millions more tenants than landlords. Equals votes. But think of Marxist Labour in charge. Even worse. How many landlords have written though to their MP ? Who probably has not even read about S21 ! MPs worry about voters whom they fear and maybe loathe too ? Worth a go.

As someone who does not Twitter or read Facebook or generally believe what I read in any newspaper/ or especially on BBC - I am amazed how hung up people get on so called " Twitter storms" or the faux outrage from the snowflake generation. How on earth did most people get through WW1 or WW2 without a total nervous collapse. They just got on with life and its dreadful risks. Most survived too.

The Labour Party hierarchy is full of rich privately educated multi property owners. Not that they wish to appear other than on the side of we ( well me at least) the proleteriat! Wonder how X and Y will handle tenants who in fact might become de facto squatters ?

Does government ever take action on any form of wrongdoing even when it has the power to do so. From knife crime to pension fund deficits to even policing tbe English Channel ! Rogue landlords should have the book thrown at them ( as should rogue tenants). But i won't be holding my breath about anything from the person who promised to sort out "burning injustices" or helping those "left behind".

Surely this is just a political move from a failing government. Many more renters than landlords. Renters = votes. Ingratiate with voters and hey presto.More Tory voters. Given the utter awfulness of both main Parties we landlords are stuck in rhe middle. And with no choice but to vote for the least ghastly. Which rotten apple do we want more ?

From observations I would not take anything the Scottish government does as a benchmark for much. It is not an effective or efficient organisation. Just profligate and hectoring. Property rights go back to Magna Carta. The government fails to do much about rogue landlords or landlords letting unsafe properties or using strong arm methods. So why not bash us all ? A vote winner given that there are many more renters than landlords. All with votes. Because all governments have failed in social housing and anything associated we good landlords are going to be victimised by this government.

The right to have and hold one's property goes back to Magna Carta. It is the basis of western democracy and the rule of law. Anything that Sturgeon and Co do in Scotland is up to them. But Scotland is not a role model for this. But The Tories have concluded that as there are more renters than landlords then bashing all landlords is a potential vote winner. Government should actually enforce high standards for any properties let which it does not. It should allow longer tenacies with the proviso that no payment of rent or damage is a deal breaker by tenants. But I guess given this lousy government - then a chance to harvest renters' votes is seen as a smart political move.

Nothing wrong with a hefty fee if it ensures sll landlords provide safe and decent accommodation. As a landlord I do not care for Councils. They are all profligate and gluttonous with taxpayer's money. But something tough needs doing to ensure decent let housing standards.
