We need to remove section 21 mandatory possession notices. It is divisive. Under the rent act 1977 there was provision for people who wished to let their home for a short term to serve a notice that the house was their main residents and they intended to return. This allowed tenants to know beforehand that the property was a short term letting. Landlords could not serve this notice if they were not living in the house as their main residence beforehand. Landlords can still sell their properties with the tenants in occupation. They may not be able to get their full value but they are likely to get a significant percentage. It will also rebalance the housing sector and increase home ownership and that is a good thing for society.

The BBC has been fair and Osbourne’s changes are well over due. Having a housing sector with too large a private rental sector is not conducive to the wellbeing of society especially without any security of tenure and rent controls. Private landlords have had unbelievable capital growth and returns in recent years which has resulted in landlords being able to build bigger portfolios at the expense of first time buyers One needs a government policy that ensures that the private rental sector reduces below 15% again. Anything above that percentage is not good for society. It is not a question of being a lefty lovie it is just having a moral compass. On a personal note I would far prefer to pay more tax to help the welfare state than the alternative, rent controls, which would be labours answer. These tax initiatives are the least we could have hoped for and I support them and so should every landlord.

That was the correct decision. While South Ilford may have issues that would benefit from licencing it is difficult to see why northern parts of the borough, including Woodford, Wanstead and Gantshill, would benefit from the scheme other than providing funding to the local authority

List and more lists. Public bodies love a “list”. The amount of working groups I have been on with the conclusion that a list should be drawn up is quite remarkable. It gives the appearance that you are doing something when in fact you are procrastinating. It is not a lack of “lists” that is the problem it is a lack of Environmental Health Offices to enforce the current legislation

This should be something to celebrate. The percentage of “buy to rent” is becoming too high. The Government should ensure that private renting does not increase above an unhealthy percentage of the housing stock which I believe is 12%. We should encourage home ownership and ensure this percentage increases. The quantity of housing is fixed and it is the percentage of how our houses are occupied that we should closely look at to ensure a more inclusive and cohesive society.

Let’s hope this petition is dead in the water. It was ill conceived and based on greed Landlords have had a fantastic run in recent years and we are at a significant advantage in purchasing properties over first time buyers. If we wish to see a higher percentage of home ownership and less of a divide between the haves and have nots then landlords should accept that they will need to pay higher taxes as a price to avoid security on tenure and rent control.

I disagree. The tax advantages and the good returns one is receiving on buy to let properties, which is subsidised by the government by housing benefit, means that home owners cannot compete in such a market. The net result, if unchecked, is home ownership will reduce and the private rented sector will increase. This will mean ever greater disparity between the haves and have nots. It is essentially that government reduce the attractiveness of buy to lets, as an investment, by changing the tax system, increasing security of tenure and implementing rent controls. Anyone who argues differently needs to question their moral compass
