Ethical part surely comes in where it says they want to put £30k into the community, right?

Hi Diane, as far as I'm aware the legislation covers all rented properties. The bit regarding new tenancies is to do with the alarms/detectors being checked on the first day of the tenancy - this doesn't need to be done for existing tenancies. It's all very confusing, though, and there seems to be a raft of conflicting information on this unfortunately.

People have been asking why this has not been being policed - well here we are. Well done SC!

First of many to do so? Quite possibly I reckon

Not surprising that he's at the top really is it? Although I thought it would be a lot higher than just 19 per cent. Watching Question Time last night, the politicians all get very sheepish when buy-to-let restrictions are brought up by the audience!

Astutely put, John. Our biggest problem is getting balanced and knowledgeable messages like yours out there rather than a lot of the propaganda we usually see in the mainstream media...

Certainly true, Elaine! I've been thinking about this this morning, and been wondering what exactly will be done to encourage the younger generations? Any ideas?

Sounds like another solid appointment. Good luck, Mr Savage.

Well it seems more like a thinly-veiled nudge rather than a u-turn, as Simon suggests. I didn't ever think I'd hear anyone from Shelter say "we have found that this could add fuel to the fire by pushing landlords out of the market and making it even harder for renters to find a home they can afford"

Wow Jon - think about this for a minute. This is a publication with a readership made up of letting agents and those interested in residential lettings. Creasy picks agents and landlords as a target and starts bashing them at every opportunity. Do you then expect - on a forum like this - said agents to defend people like her? Trade forums are exactly for this purpose!! She maybe a decent MP and care about her constituents. But let's say for example a letting agent in Liverpool reads her continual diatribes against agents on this forum, what do you expect their reaction to be? Come on!

Under 400 landlords surveyed... hardly representative. Can't say I'm that surprised at the result though. The launch and debate over OTM has been monumental among agents but that's about it. The site has launched but not really made a splash with vendors/landlords - the majority will trust their agent's discretion when it comes to portal marketing.

I wonder what these figures will look like once the outcome of the election has been factored in?!
