The case study at the end points out one glaring sign! “We now have to move out at the end of January, just six months after moving in. But there’s nothing available in this area that we can afford at the moment. “We’ve done nothing wrong, and are exemplary tenants who’ve paid up front and just want a quiet family life. “Our lives have been turned upside down by this nightmare.” Not saying this is right but obviously this was a substandard property at a substandard letting price. I personally do not take these sort of properties on as an agent because of these issues. Sometimes things do turn up that were not noticed at the time and are dealt with immediately. I believe that tenants should look for market rent in areas that they can afford AND agents should NOT take on substandard properties to let at reduced rental prices.

If these figure are true the this is really terrifying. My guess is this "survey" consisted of very carefully manufactured questions to obtain these sort of statistics. Nevertheless it really bothers me that the media have such an unbalanced view of the lettings industry, landlords and managing agents. There does not seem to be a voice for "The Minority" which in this case is landlords. In all other spheres of life the minority is deafening.

And of course they didn't air Paul's comments! Surprise surprise.

So, no more than one month's tenancy deposit. This gives tenants in some areas the opportunity to not pay the last month's rent, leaving the landlord exposed to no recompense for any damage....Great stuff. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, wouldn't you say this is a little one sided?
