Foxtons has ventured into online lettings by introducing the ability for landlords and tenants to conduct their rental deals completely over the web.

The service will eradicate the need for journeys to high street branches to sign agreements and pay rental deposits.

By logging on through the Foxtons website, landlords and tenants will now be able to take advantage of the new facility to manage lettings documents online such as the signing of their tenancy agreements.

In addition, Foxtons has integrated a secure payment portal with its internal systems to provide a seamless, highly secure alternative payment process for its tenants.

It means tenants will no longer have to visit a high street office to make their deposit and moving-in payments, as this too can now all be achieved online.

Ed Phillips, director of Lettings at Foxtons, said: “We are thrilled to be the pioneering agent to offer this service, and knowing how busy people are and the long hours they work, we believe that it will make a huge difference being able to complete a lettings deal online.”

Foxtons has 32 offices throughout London and Surrey. Last month, it announced it had a new software system, ePay, which provides a new method of electronic payment and collection, saving itself £50,000 a year in banking charges.

Great news that Foxtons has finally adapted to digital agreements, and if a milestone is being the 15th lettings agent to go online, then they deserves kudos. But there are 14 others who have been there, done that and deserve equal praise for going paperless with a seamless, convenient and secure system that goes beyond a website, straight to their clients’ email inboxes. 15th isn't bad its just not so accurate on the 'pioneering' bit, but welcome to paperless!

Under The Electronic Communications Act 2000 (I think) are such signatures actually acceptable in Court?

Maybe that Act did validate them - but I thought there were still encryption issues with electronic signatures?

And at best you had to have a faxed original?

Have foxtons bought this in, so their employees don't have to put fake signatures and cut and paste their contracts now?

Likewise. This is not new. Our tenants and clients have been concluding deals without coming in to the office for years.

Good to see Foxtons keeping up their position of never letting a fact get in the way of a good headline...... (without prejudice of course)

This is not new, KFH have been doing electonically signed agreements for about 2 yrs.
Why are they "thrilled to be the pioneering agent to offer this service"? When it has been done!
Typical that Foxtons get the media write up though.
