The SAFEagent site is now live.

It means that all letting agents who want to subscribe can now do so.

All agents who are signed up to client money protection schemes are eligible and the scheme has had widespread backing, including that of the Ombudsman and Trading Standards Institute.

Members will be able to display the kitemark, showing consumers that client money is properly protected.

Another body which by all accounts looks good on paper. What does it actually give you, nothing but supposedly good credentials. Has no powers, is actually promoting a kite mark as long as you are a member of an organistaion that has no OFT approval.

Me thinks this is where the money is being made, no such thing as a free meal. Yes it's free to sign up but you have to join one of the organistaions that ALL have someone in prison for dishonesty and don't actually polivc any of its members. It completey leaves out those that use the DPS system.

The volume of £50 actually is where they will make money. Shocking conduct and hypercritical.

We signed up. On another note, it should shut up all the calls for client money protection from organistaions that are more interested in growing memebership and revenue for themselves.

Trouble is - agents are procrastinators who will wait to see what their competitors do! For £50 we think its a no brainer - it cant hurt and may just win over a few landlords. Hope it works out as its a good idea - others schemes have failed - it will be interesting to see what happens.

Just visited the safeagent site - looks good. Lots of members already - the map looks fab.

We are signing up today as one of our competitors just has.

In fairness, you cant expect them to do it for nothing!! At £50, its hardly expensive and a very good idea. I recall that 'free to register' was always qualified with the caveat that there was a charge for marketing material in the £10's - the 'Free to register' bit was before it was launched and the impression I got was that we registered free to receive further information as and when.

'free to register' but the T&C's say there is a charge of £ 50 for marketing materials which you have to take.
Umm, that isn't free then !
