Belvoir's new branch in Newbury, due to launch later this month, looks set to go down a bomb - thanks to the new owner's previous career as an explosives disposal expert.

Tim Hughes was in the British Army for seven years and then worked in Libya as a bomb disposal operator.

I think my military training has provided me with a great deal of transferable skills. I'm able to work methodically, deal with pressure, run teams of people, and get things done correctly the first time - when doing bomb disposal work if at first you don't succeed you don't get a second chance he says.

In recent years Belvoir has recruited several ex-military personnel as the firm has expanded to its current 160-plus franchise offices. It aims to extend that to 200 franchises in the next three years.

so as well as being at greater risk of developing mental health disorders, being convicted of a offence linked to domestic violence, suffering chronic alcohol and drug abuse; ex-servicemen are likely to be good at running Belvoir offices

Providing references is a time business so charging for them is sensible. 35 is probably OTT but 15-20 much more reasonable.

P.S. I thought Dorian Gonsalves was CEO or has he moved on

Mmmmm Well let's hope the Newbury franchise owner is still capable of "defusing" because he will need to be if the latest franchise operates as badly as many of the others.

The Belvoir CEO Mike Goddard is ex RAF and they have always recruited a generous sprinkling of ex Forces franchisees. That's why they are so successful, individually and as a group
