A landlords group is working with a local authority to launch a charter to improve private rented homes.

Plymouth council in Devon is launching a consultation programme for agents, landlords, tenants and the wider public, outlining the aims of the charter.

These are to increase the supply of good quality accommodation, recognise good landlords and take action against bad ones, and empower tenants by giving them information on their rights and responsibilities - fine general pledges although the documentation seen by Letting Agent Today suggests specifics have yet to be worked out.

But Gillian Kerr of the South West Landlords Associations says she will work with the council because it's important that good landlords are recognised.

Following the consultation, which ends on November 28, the council aims to have a final version of the charter launched next March.
