The formal consultation process by the Scottish Government on its suggested new tenancy agreement for the private sector closed yesterday.

One of the main responses came from ARLA, following a series of meetings with letting agents leading up to Christmas.

ARLA's submission emphasises a series of key points:

- support for the principle of a model tenancy agreement;

- opposition to the abolition of no-fault' possession (Section 33);

- opposition to the imposition of longer minimum tenancy length;

- support for notice periods being based on tenancy duration;

- a call for greater clarity and certainty over the proposed mandatory possession grounds;

- and opposition to the imposition of rent controls or other government intervention in rental prices.

Most of the submissions to the consultation are likely to be released on the Scottish Government website in the new year, providing contributors have agreed to the views being made public.

The authorities say they aim to issue a report based on the consultation by the end of March 2015.
