Letting agents and private sector landlords are being invited to be trained' by a local council.

Last month York city council held training courses on licensing schemes and on the management of Houses in Multiple Occupation; the next, to be held next week, will be to help landlords address damp and mould and excess cold in properties.

The session will give details of research on avoiding these problems in the first place and then affordable solutions on how to treat cold, damp and mould, as well as advice on how to communicate information on these subjects with tenants.

A council spokesman says: Just as the council is investing in its own properties to ensure they are fuel efficient and well-ventilated, we want to support the city's private landlords to provide secure and healthy accommodation that's legally compliant. It's good for their businesses and for their tenants to enjoy safe and comfortable homes.

Details are available on housing.standards@york.gov.uk or on 01904 552300.
