A homeless charity’s lettings agency has launched a referral scheme that will pay £200 for any new landlord that signs up to its scheme.

Real Lettings is a social enterprise set up by Broadway, the London based homelessness charity, and has been successfully running its property leasing scheme since 2005.

The agent is currently leasing over 160 properties in London, all to tenants who have experienced some level of homelessness in the past. Tenants are given ongoing support to ensure they are able to successfully maintain their tenancies and look after the properties they are renting.

The leasing scheme itself provides landlords with a long-term guarantee on rent, paying landlords even if the property is empty. Leases of three or five years are signed and Real Lettings then provides a rent guarantee and a comprehensive management service, which includes them taking care of minor day to day repairs at no cost to the landlord.

With supply of private rented sector property in London being low and tenant demand at an all-time high, Real Lettings says it is among many agents in London who are challenged by the current market.

Katie Rosengarten, manager of Real Lettings, said: “There is very little rental stock, and a lot of letting agencies and housing organisations are vying for the same properties. Real Lettings remains to be an attractive option for landlords.

“On one level it provides a hassle-free letting and management service and a long-term guarantee on rents; on another it gives a landlord an opportunity to put something back into society by providing a good home to someone who is trying to get their lives back on track.”
