We apologise for some truly irritating pop-ups which have appeared on our sites this week.

Unfortunately, it’s Europe that’s making us do it.

An EU cookie directive (honestly you couldn’t make this up) comes into force this Saturday, making websites tell their users about cookies.

It is extremely annoying, and even sites such as http://www.bt.com have the pop-ups.

To be on the safe side, we have done the same thing, as there are (this being the EU) heavy penalties for sites not compliant with the law.

However, there is one easy way to get rid of the darn things: when they appear, you will be asked if you are happy with our cookies. Just click yes, and the pop-ups will disappear. Thankfully, forever.

Just a thought, as David Cameron won’t hold the euro referendum we seem to remember him promising us: is anyone actually pleased that we’re part of the EU?

I have ignored the widget. It's impact on my use and enjoyment of this site is nil.

With luck like this, I perhaps ought to buy a lottery ticket today!

"The only cookies we have for this site are if you choose to login in and post a comment. Thats it!"

Um, not quite! You also need to speak to your web designers too if you think you're compliant with the legislation.

Your site places at least 9 cookies (you only list 6 in your cookie policy) on my machine whether I've given my consent or not. This includes one session cookie which is still covered in the legislation. The whole point is that you shouldn't put any cookies on a users PC until they have consented.

There is some argument about whether core functionality cookies require permission but most of yours are tracking or 3rd party cookies.

It's all a load of nonsense anyway and half the government websites don't conform yet. The ICO have said they don't have a team monitoring non-compliance, they will just act on complaints, so the chances of you being caught are slim.

Please see further info on the cookies here
    :-

This is the same link from the widget in the bottom left of your screen. However if you have said you are happy about this but it is still there, then there is something wrong. If this is the case please email us at team@lettingagenttoday.co.uk and we will try to resolve.

This widget itsself is from these guys http://www.civicuk.com/cookie-law/index who have created this widget for sites to use to comply with the new....laws. You can moe information on their site too. opethat helps and clarifys guys.

    @ LAT Team

Can you please be as quick to respond as you were two hours ago. Or put another way get your collective fingers out.

I have tested this in two ways (apart from saying "happpy" on two previous days.

First I closed the tab/story having said happy, then reopend. Pop up appears again.

I've just been out an hour, have reviewed stories, again pop up appears. Closed down, re-opened, pop up appears.

For Chrissake what the hell is going on?

what's wrong with it? If one doesn't want to be tracked and decides to block the tracking cookies with the likesof Peer Guardian to do away with irritating targetted adverts for stuff you bought a month ago or browser hijacking then the measures to stop the irritation slow the internet down to speeds well below what is being delivered down the line.

A lot of decent sites become unusable because of marketing data collection. If I want to buy stuff I will search for it and buy it I don't want useful suggestions for weeks and weeks on where to get a door seal for a washing machine!

Had any emails for Dutch camera on a stick?

    @ LAT Team

This bloody thing has popped up another three times - so 4 times today how happy do I have to be.

I always post without logging in - so your point is.........? How does that save me from the cookie monster as it obviously doesn't.

    Hi

Thank you for your comments and we appreciate you are onside with this, well we have to be.

Good question: The only cookies we have for this site are if you choose to login in and post a comment. Thats it!

However the option to post comments without logging in is still there as always.

    Many thanks

    Ros

ASs emailed to you yesterday this cookie thing appeared first last week and after much thought and deliberation I decided to click I'm Happy and waited to see what virus delights would appear.

Luckily none did and this article explains this latest of life's irritants.

However having said last week I was happy (well grudgingly sort of) why has the damned thing apeared again twice this week - I said I was even more happy on Tuesday!!!

    Now it appears again today

A privacy concern has prompt EU to take action against cookies especially tracking cookies so they are just trying to protect people, what’s wrong with that????

Since you have mentioned it, how about letting us know what cookies you have and why you need them.
