The taxation is so unfair that landlords can't offset mortgage interest & we are expected to keep up with the property regulations & extra costs & whatever goes with the territory. Maybe that was to the government's benefit when the interest rates were low but we are now paying tax on Revenue & not income, paying tax on losses is crazy, and impossible to sustain! Already too late but I hope they wise up before they damage the whole industry, or see Rents keep rising!

instead of these cok-and-bull schemes why don't they address the root cause of the issue, Landlords are being penalised as easy money for the government, we are paying tax on our losses with this high interest rates. We are paying Revenue Tax not Income Tax on our Rental business, nowhere in the world does this - its time for the government to wake up!

I completely agree, the taxes imposed by the government are daylight robbery, no government in the world expects people to pay tax on their losses which this is. As an honest, hardworking landlord without a pension, I was planning to use my second property as a source of income for my retirement. However, I am now having to sell it because I can't afford the costs associated with maintaining it. Furthermore, in addition to all the regulatory costs and expenses that the government has imposed they also want to remove section 21 which makes it no longer viable to be a private landlord. I hope they will come to their sences otherwise rents will keep going up as the costs will be passed on to the poor tenants. Tories are trying to take labour votes by adopting their policies! Please sign & distribute to all your contacts as we need to get the word out!

The government has put on so much pressure on private landlords (in terms of Taxes, regulation, obtaining mortgages, high mortgages, Section 21 removal, EPC, Elec testing etc etc.) although some are reasonable but they cost money to maintain & by increasing taxes (eg. mortgage interest deduction) its no longer a viable business so a lot of private landlords have sold out & hence there is a rental property shortage - Government have ruined the private landlords rental business & as a result they will also suffer on housing & guess what Labour wants to squeeze private landlords even more so it will get much worse before it gets better!
