Just read a news bulletin from my accountant: Insolvencies increase by 51% in May, 2,552 companies registered as insolvent last month. Who could have foreseen that hey?

There used to be double MIRAS, i.e. both partners could claim MIRAS. They removed that and then interest rates went to 15%!! Many people will lose their homes and businesses will go bust. That doesn't matter of course as long as inflation is under control!! Pushing up interest rates only controls inflation by making people poorer.

Not surprising. I'm selling up because of the rule changes here in Wales. I think the golden goose has well and truly been cooked. Good luck with the housing crisis of their own making.

If the government hadn't removed the ability to claim mortgage interest against rental income, a lot of landlords would have stuck with long-term rental. It's the governments fault that landlords have been pushed into short-term let. Whenever the government interferes in a market, it screws things up!

This is how nazis operate. They make the public hate a minority of the population, then victimise them. Politicians should not be allowed to operate like this, but they do!. I had a tenant move out of an apartment and the council immediately charged me double council tax as though it was a second home. People who live in beautiful parts of the country need to realise that others have the right to visit and the area doesn't belong to them.

If the government hadn't taken away mortgage interest relief, a lot of landlords wouldn't have turned to short-let. It's politicians that cause the problem and seek to shift the blame onto others.

There is a problem with the way that this is levied at a local level. If someone buys a run-down property with the aim of bringing it up to an acceptable standard for rent, they are hit with the second-home tax from the day they buy it. People should be encouraged to bring property back into rental not discouraged.

This government has consistently brought in changes to dissuade long-term rentals, e.g. removing the ability to claim mortgage interest against rental income. It would be better to encourage landlords to take long-term tenants with nice juicy carrots such as rolling back the mortgage interest and providing grants, than the usual approach of hitting them with the biggest stick possible and trying to make them out to be social pariahs.

Politics of envy again. Why not reinstate tax relief on mortgage interest on long term lets??
