John Boyle, former managing director of HomeLet, has joined Let Alliance as executive adviser to the board and senior management team.

Boyle is back working with Andy Halstead, founder and CEO at Let Alliance. Halstead and Boyle have a working relationship that goes back some 30 years.

Halstead said: “John Boyle has a brilliant relationship with many members of the UK letting agent community and I did not want to see his skills and knowledge lost through a semi-retirement that had arrived much too early.”

“Having worked with John on and off for so long, he is someone who I trust, a rare thing in the modern business world. Let Alliance is developing really well, taking market share and growing organically. Having John on board is a huge win for us.”

The well-liked Boyle was sacked from his job as managing director of HomeLet in 2012. The firm alleged gross misconduct, but Boyle and his colleague Heidi Abbott, also sacked, argued unfair dismissal. Insiders say that Abbott, now with Martin & Co, has very recently won her case.

Our story, amid allegations that the City regulator, the then FSA, was looking at rental contracts issued by agents with a clause apparently at the behest of HomeLet which insisted on tenants taking out insurance of their own possessions, was the most-read ever on Letting Agent Today: see link below.

Separately, First Complete, a mortgage broking business owned by estate agency group LSL, has added Let Alliance, the specialist landlord and tenant building and contents insurance provider, to its general insurance panel.

Appointed Representatives of First Complete will have access to all Let Alliance’s buy-to-let insurance products.

    John Boyle Joins Let Alliance

John Boyle, the ex-Managing Director of HomeLet and board member of Barbon Insurance has joined Let Alliance as Executive Advisor to the board and senior management team. Boyle is back working with Andy Halstead, founder and CEO at Let Alliance. Halstead and Boyle have a working relationship that goes back some 30 years in major organisations such as Prudential, Pearl Assurance, AIG, Barbon and now Let Alliance.

Halstead said, “John Boyle has a brilliant relationship with many members of the UK letting agent community and I did not want to see his skills and knowledge lost through a semi-retirement that was planned much too early! It has been an interesting process convincing John that he can still enjoy all of the finer things in life and at the same time dedicate some of his time to Let Alliance as well as Hallmark (the UK's leading utilities management partner for the lettings industry). I finally won the argument. Having worked with John on and off over the last 30 years he is someone who I trust, a rare thing in the modern business world. Let Alliance is developing really well, taking market share and growing organically. Having John on board is a huge win for us.”

Boyle said, “Andy made a very strong case to get me out of semi-retirement. I already have a fantastic non-executive board position with Hallmark and my new role with Let Alliance complements this. I am very excited at the prospect of working with Andy and his team again, and many of the individuals who I know very well. I am impressed with the way Let Alliance has grown, winning market share organically with a market leading proposition. As I have experienced on several occasions, Andy is very convincing when he really wants something, so here we go again! Very exciting times.”

John will also be working alongside Ian Shackell again, non-executive director at Let Alliance who worked with John at Barbon, where Ian was Director of Finance and Risk. Ian said, “John will add significant value to Let Alliance at such an exciting time for our business. I know John well and had no hesitation in supporting his appointment. We are lucky to secure his services.”
