Tenancy deposit protection scheme mydeposits, a spin-off of the National Landlords Association, has picked up an award for its dispute resolution service.

It picked up the gong for Excellence in Alternative Dispute Resolution at the awards held by the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution. While CEDR provides external ADR services for mydeposits, which uses a mixture of internal and external resources, the judging was carried out by an independent panel.

The scheme beat off competition from around the globe to land the award including the travel industry body ABTA, the London Organising Committee of the Olympic & Paralympic Games (LOCOG) and the South African Federation of Civil Engineering Contractors.

The CEDR judging panel said that mydeposits had in the last years ‘explored new ways of working, innovating and engaging with members’.

Eddie Hooker, chief executive of the scheme, said: “We’re constantly looking at ways to develop and improve the service we offer to our members and have worked hard to create innovative and effective ways of resolving landlord/tenant disputes in a difficult consumer environment.

“For a tenancy deposit protection scheme to work effectively, its provision of ADR needs to be trusted, and it is vital that we provide landlords, agents and their tenants with the assurance that the service we offer is professional, fair and transparent.

“This award, judged by the largest and most respected leaders of neutral-assisted dispute resolution in the world, is testament to that, and it goes without saying that we are absolutely delighted.”

Mydeposits is running free dispute workshops throughout this month for letting agents in order to provide insight into dispute resolution. The workshops are free of charge and provide expert advice from senior adjudicators of the scheme, look at common reasons why landlords and letting agents lose out in deposit disputes, and outline key evidence and supporting documents that can help prove a claim.

A bit of a joke if it wasn't an attempt at serious journalism?
