The astonishing success of the Scottish-based rental website Citylets continues, with 24% more visitors recorded to the site in August, placing it at 57 in the list of most-visited UK property websites, according to Experian Hitwise.

This is despite the fact that it only lists rental properties in Scotland and Northern Ireland, areas covering just 10% of the UK’s overall population.

Thomas Ashdown, founder and managing director of Citylets, said: “There is no doubt that renting is becoming an increasing feature of Scottish society and this strong demand for rented accommodation shows no sign of diminishing any time soon.

“We have also seen a rise in average rents being achieved in Scotland as a result of the surge in inquiries for properties.

“There is no doubt we will smash our target of three million visitors before the end of the year and look forward to building on our strong performance in 2012.”

Citylets has been advertising on breaks in the X Factor, and Ashdown said: “TV advertising is just part of the mix necessary to help Citylets in its ambition to become a household brand name in Scotland. There is still a lot of work to be done.”
