Zoopla backer Octopus has invested £700,000 of seed-funding into a student accommodation website.

Alex Chesterman, Zoopla’s founder and CEO, is already an “angel” investor in Uniplaces.

A third investor in Uniplaces is William Reeve, chairman of Graze.com, a healthy snack company, in which Octopus also owns a stake. Reeve, along with Chesterman, was co-founder of Lovefilm. Both Chesterman and Reeve have backed Uniplaces from its launch in 2012 in Lisbon.

In June this year, the website expanded to include London and now has its headquarters there.

Uniplaces provides a booking platform for student accommodation, marketing a wide variety of properties from privately rented houses to professionally managed student residences.

The company prides itself on creating high-quality property profiles, enabling students to safely book their accommodation online, with no need for viewings.

The service has proved particularly useful for international students looking for a more convenient and secure way to arrange their accommodation before they arrive.
