An agent who stole thousands of pounds in rent has been given 250 hours of community service and a 10-month prison sentence suspended for a year after admitting fraud.

Samantha Wood used the money - estimated to be around £25,000 - to help her company, CS Lettings, through financial difficulties. The funds had been rent from eight properties onwed by a single landlord.

Wood's solicitor advocate told Bradford Crown Court that she had now been declared bankrupt.

Judge John Potter told Wood: You were challenged about this and were vague in your responses and told a number of untruths. In due course it was clear money had been siphoned by you because your own business was in financial difficulty. I am told you made no money from it. You were effectively trying to keep your letting agency going.

The judge said Wood had presented strongly supportive references, had no previous convictions, was suffering health issues and was the sole carer of a young child.
