West Lindsey council in Lincolnshire is considering a selective licensing scheme in one ward of its patch, despite recent government concern about licensing.

The council is making a final decision over the summer but if introduced it would mean every landlord would have to apply, having first made clear that they were taking reasonable steps to tackle anti-social behaviour in their property or by their tenants.

The licence would cost £375 and a landlord would have to buy one per property.

The council is currently taking steps to ensure that any proposals taken forward to introduce a selective licensing scheme are robust and supported by the appropriate evidence base," a council spokesman has told the Lincolnshire Echo.

Until this evidence is finalised the council cannot make a decision on this matter and finalise any proposals it wishes to make. We would like to reassure anyone who took part in the initial consultation that we are still committed to following this process through and will be bringing a final report on the matter to committee in summer 2015 he says.

I think this would be fair but you have to worry about a monopoly when doing a scheme like this and you cant be to selective
