Mayor's office gives public support for Build To Rent in London

In one of the first signals that new London Mayor Sadiq Khan backs Build To Rent, his deputy responsible for housing has met with developers and investors interested in operating in the capital.

In a statement afterwards Deputy Mayor James Murray said: “We need to build more homes of all sorts in London and the Build To Rent model offers an important opportunity to attract investment into new housing in the capital. BTR can provide high-quality, well-managed rented homes, including affordable housing, and can potentially deliver new homes faster than conventional developments for sale."

“Today I met representatives of the sector to discuss ways we can work together – we want to support the sector and offer certainty to investors, which is particularly important following the EU referendum result“ Murray added.

Murray says Khan has identified BTR as a key way of boosting housing supply “and is keen to offer the sector more certainty to help it scale up significantly.”

The discussions with the unnamed developers and investors are believed to have considered how the Khan administration can help through its planning, land and investment programmes.
