Renters Reform Bill to be discussed by MPs this afternoon

The Renters Reform Bill is being discussed by MPs this afternoon - although not as part of its long-running passage through Parliament to become law.

Instead the Levelling Up Select Committee - an all-party group of MPs which scrutinises government legislation - Is holding a session devoted to the Bill.

There will be questions from the committee to Housing Minister Rachel Maclean, to the social sector Housing Ombudsman Richard Blakeway, and renters and landlords’ groups including Ben Beadle, the chief executive of the National Residential Landlords Association. Some senior officials from the Department of Levelling Up, Housing and the Communities will also be in the hot seat.

A statement from the Select Committee ahead of this afternoon’s session says: “Questions are likely to focus on the implications of a new ombudsman for the private rented sector, abolishing assured shorthold tenancies, and aspects of the sector not covered by the Bill explicitly such as housing quality and affordability.”

The session begins at 4pm and you’ll be able to watch live on Parliament TV here.

They are very unlikly to ask anyone who actually knows anything about the private rental sector for their opinions and even in the unlikely event they did then they'd carefully ignore any good or sensible advice....

I have zero confidence in these people and imagine it's a rigged done deal to try and create a bribe for gullible voters in the forthcoming election - with the timing of all this very carefully managed to straddle the election as a long standing part of that cynical plan.

That's all this whole disaster at any cost (and we can already anticipate the cost) is about.

The sad part is that those this government are trying to bribe will never vote Conservative anyway. Mind you, this shower are not my Conservatives.
