Agents and other property professionals are invited to a free Dorset c ouncil forum in Dorchester next month.

A key focus will be rental property registration and what agents and landlords need to do to prepare. The event will provide the latest information on the register and explain what the changes mean in practice for landlords and letting agents.

England’s new “Register your rental property” service requires landlords to register each let property, pay a £65 annual fee per property, and obtain both a Landlord Registration Number and a Property Registration Number. It is due to be launched in Dorset in August 2027.

The event will also cover lessons from the first six months of the Renters Rights Act, fair and lawful property advertising and ‘Making Tax Digital’ requirements.

Guest speaker Kevin Wheldon, director at Dorchester-based Edwards & Keeping chartered accountants, will provide an update on Making Tax Digital; HMRC’s move to digital tax reporting aimed at simplifying record-keeping, improving accuracy, and reducing errors.

A council spokesperson says: “The private rented sector plays an important role in providing homes for people across Dorset, and we want to support landlords, agents and landowners to understand and prepare for the changes ahead.

“This forum is a valuable opportunity to hear directly from specialists both inside and outside of the council, get practical information and ask questions. I would encourage anyone involved in letting property in Dorset to book a place and join us.”

The forum takes place on Thursday 19 November 2026 at the Dorford Centre, Dorchester. Refreshments and a light buffet will be available from 6.30pm, with the forum starting at 6.50pm.

The evening will include a question-and-answer session with an expert panel.

People booking a place can submit questions in advance through the booking form, and the panel will address as many as possible during the forum. Places are limited and landlords, letting agents and landowners are encouraged to book early.
