A London council has won a housing award for its work with private landlords and agents.

Islington borough council won ‘Best Local Authority Landlord Services’ award at the UK Landlord Accreditation Partnership Awards, in recognition of the lengths the council goes to in helping to house the ever-increasing number of families on the housing waiting list.

The award particularly recognises the importance of the council’s partnership work with private sector landlords in returning empty properties to use, and negotiating sustainable tenancies.

Councillor James Murray, executive member for housing, said: “The council is committed to building more council housing for social rent, but with an urgent shortage now, the private sector is an important supply of housing.

“So I welcome this recognition of our committed staff’s work with local landlords and agents in the borough.

“At a time when the Government’s welfare reforms are threatening many tenants, the council's work with private providers to sustain tenancies is helping more residents stay in the borough.”

Interesting that they failed to mention the £1000 incentive that Islington council pay to private landlords for every let they secure....
This of course is one way of doing it...
or you can simply provide a process that works and provide landlords security against non payment of rent and tenant damage for half this cost, as happens in many other boroughs of London and across the UK.
