Scottish lettings website Citylets, which last year gave up syndicating its listings to major UK-wide portals, has reported that its visitor traffic last year was 12.5% up on 2011.

There were over 3.3m visits, more than double those of 2009 and over three times those of 2007.

Agent offices on site also grew last year by 13.3%.

Thomas Ashdown, founder and MD of Citylets, said the results were especially welcome in a year of change for the Scottish lettings market.

He said: “We couldn’t be more delighted to record results like these in 2012. We now attract 2.3m more visitors per year than in 2007.”

Citylets pioneered a network model whereby Scottish listings were distributed to other mainstream UK property sites, but disbanded it last year to avoid price rises at the behest of partners.

Ashdown said: “Citylets took the decision a few years ago to invest heavily in its own audience reach and brand. We knew this was the only way forward long term and that the network era would come to an end.

“In my opinion, you can simply no longer syndicate your listings to other major property portals without the material concern of helping them grow in your own niche region.

“The few UK-wide portals that remain are too big to partner with. You have to know when to change your model.”
