ARLA has a new managing director and a new president. Ian Potter, the former operations manager, has been promoted to managing director, while Jane Ingram of Savills has succeeded Knight Frank’s Tim Hyatt as president.

Hyatt remains chair of the NFoPP board.

Ingram said: “I’ve worked in lettings for 21 years and I know that the industry is in need of a champion now more than ever. In the coming months, I will be meeting with ARLA members across the country.

“I will also be picking up where Tim left off, focusing on improving communication between Arbon House and our many members, helping to promote the importance of using a professional lettings agent.”

Ingram joined Savills in 2005, and before that was head of lettings at Chesterton.

Potter said: “The importance of the private rented sector to the UK property market cannot be over-estimated. In my new role at ARLA, I plan to ensure we can continue to effectively represent our member base whilst driving up professional standards within the lettings industry.”

Susan Fitzgibbon becomes president-elect of ARLA.

The changes are part of a fuller story which was reported yesterday on our sister title Estate Agent Today.

ARLA has until this year been as current as diplodocus. Hyatt start a change and modernisation. Hopefully Jane will continue this adding her own personality into it. I wish her luck.

Ian Potter, Jane Ingram and not forgetting Susan Fitzgibbon.

I am sure you will know this but may I add that in my opinion Lettings & Management requires a different skill, qualification and experience that that of Sales. Both are important but in my view emphasising the difference to those at the 'coal face', staff and the public, has been lacking in recent years?.

Congratulations on your appointments and I wish you the very best of luck and success.

Good Luck Jane - I wish you well. Tim made a real difference and I am confident you will do the same.
