A new student property portal is offering letting agents free listings until February and then £99 a month.

Agents interested in the ‘early bird’ offer by Studenthouses need to confirm before October 31. The normal monthly fee would be £249.

Studenthouses was started last year with a start-up cost of £150,000 and unlike other student accommodation sites, deals with letting agents only and not landlords.

Founder Paul Humphreys said: “Our property portal is for accredited letting agents to market their properties to thousands of students.

“Studenthouses.com have chosen to work with accredited letting agents only, ensuring quality for everyone involved. The idea is to bring an end to the old-fashioned practice of students wandering the streets to view addresses printed on crumpled paper lists.

Students expect to be able to see all available quality student houses in one place. We also want to make student house-hunting a social experience – like everything else is!

“The service is fully integrated with Facebook, as students search for properties they can invite their friends to view a house with them. Also, letting agents receive instant exposure from their status updates and online activity.”

The site, which aims to list student properties at all UK universities, will allow letting agents who decide they do not like the service to quit at any time.

It is currently working with over 300 agents on a free trial basis.
