A landlord of a home in multiple occupation has been ordered to pay over £16,000 in fines and costs after admitting breaching a string of regulations.

Munir Nathanie, 38, of Leicester, has been found guilty of eight breaches of licensing conditions and regulations covering HMOs.

Leicester magistrates court has heard how a property owned by Nathanie in the city suffered from a faulty fire alarm system, unsafe electrical wiring and a fire escape which was poorly maintained.

The breaches came to light in December 2013 following a complaint from a tenant. The house was licensed for use by seven people.

Nathanie was ordered to pay £2,000 for each of eight offences under the Management of HMO (England) Regulations 2006, and ordered to pay £2,037 in prosecution costs, along with a £120 victim surcharge.
