Large £105m scheme is latest Build To Rent scheme in pipeline

Specialist Build To Rent developer Moda has announced a large scheme on the site of a former police headquarters in Scotland - thought to be the largest scheme north of the border.

The scheme will include 365 apartments at the site of the old Strathclyde Police HQ in Glasgow, with cafes, restaurants, workspace and gardens.

Moda - which will go on to let the properties after building them - says the proposal will create a “new vibrant cultural quarter”.

Moda already has a Build To Rent pipeline of over 5,000 units in city centre locations in Leeds, Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester and London.

“The old Strathclyde Police headquarters is a fantastic site right in the heart of Glasgow, and matches our vision of delivering high-quality housing for rent in city centre locations across the UK. As an investor, developer, owner and operator we are here for the long term and aim to knit ourselves into the city’s fabric" says Moda's head of acquisitions.

The latest figures suggest 60,139 Build To Rent units built or in the pipeline across the UK; some 30,844 of these in London - where Build To Rent currently accounts for one in five new housing starts - and 29,295 elsewhere.
