The Agent's Cafe - A skinny latte and a student flatshare please...

Planning permission has been granted for a hybrid letting agency and a café bar to be installed - together - in a listed building in Leeds city centre.

Insider Media reports that Leeds-based company Northern Eye - which operates the iforhomes hybrid agency - has won consent for an innovative ‘Estate Agents Cafe' close to the city’s First Direct Arena, in a building previously occupied by a more conventional bar.

The scheme involves a mixed-used estate agency, café and bar, with two flats above the retail space.

iforhomes is primarily a student lettings agency, although its website says it also functions as a developer and landlord on some properties.

It was established by Leeds University graduates who say on their site: “We strive to improve on the poor quality housing we experienced as students ourselves and deliver to you an exceptional ‘Boutique Residence’ with a high specification of living.”

It says its target audience veers “towards the affluent 2nd, 3rd, 4th year, International, postgraduate or mature students.”

This isn't the first unusual location for an agency branch - we discussed such innovations a little while ago in this article.
