Agency installs new systems after error leaves HMOs unlicensed

A lettings agency has initiated new systems to ensure there is no repeat of a mistake that left some client properties unlicensed.

An overnight by Castle Residential in Glasgow had unwittingly left HMOs in the city’s West End unlicensed, meaning the homes should not have been let to three or more people who weren’t related.

As a result of the error, two properties were left temporarily unoccupied and two landlords warned over the management of their units.

At a city council licensing committee, reported by local media in Glasgow, a lawyer representing Castle Residential said new systems had been put in place to ensure the problem is not repeated.

The Glasgow Live news website says the lawyer told the committee that applications for “about a dozen HMO licences” and renewals for the two West End properties had not been lodged on time.

“New systems have been put in place to try to ensure this situation won’t happen again” he said.

The SNP councillor chairing the committee indirectly praised the agency saying that: “The steps that have been taken are above what we would normally get, which is commendable.”
