Free legal help for agents on what Renters Reform Bill really means

A free webinar hosted by PropTech firm Goodlord is being held tomorrow at 10am offering agents and landlords a detailed overview of the Renters' (Reform) Bill, now going through Parliament.

Ryan Heaven, a solicitor at Dutton Gregory, will join Goodlord’s insurance director Oli Sherlock for the session, which will also give agents an opportunity to ask questions.

The hosts will also outline what we know so far, the opposition certain elements of the Bill may face in the Parliamentary process, which areas are still to be decided, and what timelines the industry should be planning for.

Heaven says: “This is a big, detailed piece of legislation. That means there’s a huge amount of content for landlords and agents to grapple with. I hope I can shine some light on some of the more obscure changes outlined in the Bill, as well as answer any questions on what these changes will mean for the industry on a practical level.”

The legislation contains a series of pledges, mostly appearing to court favour with renters - it will be harder to evict tenants, easier for renters to have pets, a Decent Homes Standard will be introduced, and landlords will have to join a mandatory Ombudsman scheme.

The government claims 11m tenants across England will benefit from “safer, fairer and higher quality homes thanks to a once-in-a-generation overhaul of housing laws.”

Goodlord’s Oli Sherlock adds: “After literally years of waiting, we finally have a piece of legislation to get to grips with. The industry will need to move quickly to ensure they’re ready for these changes when they become law. We hope this webinar will help agents and landlords understand what the bill contains, where the grey areas remain, and what they need to do now to prepare for the implementation of these once-in-a-generation changes.”
