Budget 2024 - Just days left for agents to send ideas to Jeremy Hunt

Agents who want to put their arguments for lettings fiscal reform to the Chancellor have until 5pm next Wednesday to submit their ideas.

There is always a formal consultation period in which representations can be made ahead of the government Spring Budget announcement, which this year takes place on March 6. The deadline for this year is next Wednesday at 5pm - submissions must be made online.

A statement from Jeremy Hunt’s office says: “HM Treasury welcomes comments on existing policy, or suggestions for new policy. In order to inform policy development for the Budget, your representation should contain policy suggestions for the upcoming fiscal event and explain the policy rationale, costs, benefits and deliverability of proposals. It should also be evidence based, providing clear arguments on how it contributes to the aims of the Budget.”

Guidance from the Treasury suggests that submission take account of revenue implications for the Exchequer, how proposed measures might support growth, and wider macroeconomic implications - for example, how the lettings industry could contribute to economic stability and support employment.

Details and the submission forms can be found here.
