No surprise: 88% of tenants say cost is key in deciding where to rent

A survey suggests no fewer than 88 per cent of tenants regard cost as the most important deciding factor when choosing a rental property.

The latest in a series of surveys conducted for insurance firm Cover4LetProperty shows that 79 per cent also regard location as important, while ease of parking is the third most influential component when choosing what and where to rent - that’s key for 47 per cent.

Overall cost, location, ease of parking and having a garden (important to 41 per cent) remain the top influencers on whether to rent a property.

Less important considerations include getting on with the landlord, being able to accommodate pets and having the freedom to decorate.
