The public are described as being “sceptical and confused” over the fees ban that comes into effect tomorrow.
A survey by insurance agency Just Landlords says 41 per cent of the public are currently aware of the impending regulation change but only 17 per cent knew that the implementation date was tomorrow, June 1.
Some 30 per cent of those who rent were sceptical over how they will benefit, with some suggesting landlords and letting agents may continue to levy some charges.
Many respondents were cynical: three quarters believed the ban would not end up saving tenants money, whilst 49 per cent predicted rents would rise to compensate for the scrapped tenancy fees.
The research also uncovered that those who were single and aged 25 to 34 were the most sceptical about the positive impact of the upcoming ban.
Only 27 per cent felt the ban would speed up the tenancy agreement process while 23 per cent predicted “easier interaction with landlords and letting agents”.
